Community Agreements
We believe the ocean is for everyone.
In being apart of our community, you agree to uphold both our Community Agreement and our Trans Inclusivity Statement; to keep our community happy & safe. Please ensure you have read both.
1) Treat others as they wish to be treated. Respect others' choice of pronouns.
2) We are a community of adult LGBTQ+ surfers and allies, welcoming and respecting all those who identify across the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
3) We have zero tolerance of homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, racism, religious intolerance, sexism, ableism, ageism, body shaming, harassment, gatekeeping, bullying and all other forms of non-acceptance and hate speech.
4) We are a community first and foremost, not a dating or hookup service. We have zero tolerance for predatory behaviour or sexual harrasment.
5) We take responsibility in educating ourselves whilst normalising making mistakes. Cancel culture has no place here.
6) Black lives matter. We are committed to combating racism and creating anti-racist surf culture.
7) Whether you are yet to learn or have surfed all your life - we are all surfers, regardless of ability or equipment you own. There is no gatekeeping about ability, experience or equipment of choice.
8) We are custodians of the ocean, and personally responsible for leaving our oceans and beaches in better health than how we found them.
9) We know the more people who have access to our oceans, the more people who can save it. We are all responsible for welcoming others into the sea and surfing, especially beginners and visitors.
10) Finally, these agreements are open to feedback - please let us know if have ideas or feedback to improve our community.
Failure to uphold these community agreements may result in your position within the Club being review, included being removed from the Club.
Trans Inclusion Statement 🏳️⚧️
Queer Surf Club acknowledges that each part of the LGBTQ+ community can face different forms of adversity, sometimes resulting in them not feeling welcome in all queer spaces. QSC wants to make explicitly clear that this club is welcoming of all Transgender, Non-Binary, Intersex and Gender Diverse people.
As part of this the club is examining how barriers to attendance for these groups can be reduced or removed in their entirety. Amongst other things, this includes the nomination of Trans+ point of contact within the club for those who may appreciate additional support in attending QSC events. This contact is themselves trans and is happy to answer any questions you may have about attending. They will advocate on your behalf to ensure that you feel safe and that any barriers to attendance are removed where possible.
The current Trans+ point of contact is Lucy Moyle, if you have any questions or concerns about attending QCS as a Trans, Non-Binary or Intersex person then please feel free to reach out to them on the slack and they will be more than happy to help you. The Trans+ Point of contact will also make themselves known as QSC events as someone who can be approached to help resolve any gender related problems.
Finally, as part of promoting an inclusive culture QSC, when meeting new people we encourage you to share your pronouns and ask for theirs. If you are ever unsure of someone’s gender please check with them instead of guessing. However, sometimes mistakes are made and if you do accidentally misgender someone the best thing to do is simply apologise, correct yourself and move on. Additionally, if you hear someone else be misgendered we encourage you to politely and kindly correct the person who made the mistake.
The ocean is for everyone, trans people included!
